A Sausage Gravy recipe that will blow your mind (5 ingredients, 5 steps)!
I have never been a huge fan of gravy & biscuit dishes; they are either too salty, overly processed, and/or worst of all, laden with oil (yuck)! My (southern gentleman :p) boyfriend whipped up this recipe one morning and blew my mind. I am sorry it took so long to share!
Unless you want to make your own biscuits (kudos to you!), I strongly recommend Pillsbury's Grands!™ Southern Homestyle Buttermilk Biscuits. They are out of this world.
Breakfast sausage (1 pound): Use any kind you love, pick a HOT sausage if you like kick!
Unsalted butter (3 TBSP)
Whole milk (3 cups)
Flour (1/4 cup)
Paprika (optional but strongly recommended)

Toss that butter in a pan on medium heat and cook your sausage (slowly) until brown
Add the flour and stir for about 1-2 minutes until the mixture is brown and "nutty"
Slowly WHISK the milk into the sausage mixture (you can keep the heat on medium, but don't leave it unattended!), slowly turning it into a gravy. It takes about 15 minutes of love to achieve the right texture.
Add salt and pepper (be as aggressive as you need to be here, depending on how salty your sausage is as a starting point). Tip: Taste your sausage before you add the milk, as an indication of how much salt you are starting with.
Add cayenne pepper to taste
Number of Servings: Enough gravy for about 3-4 massively (yes, large) and delicious biscuits! Enjoy :)
